I was lucky enough to grow up in beautiful Richmond-upon-Thames. I could have picked 50 things I love about the place, so whittling it down to 10 was a tricky task, but here we go…
- Richmond bridge – the first thing I think of when I think of Richmond. It was built in the 1770s and is the oldest surviving Thames bridge in London. It has gorgeous views stretching over…
- …the River Thames. The next best thing to living by the coast is living by the Thames!
- Richmond park – probably what Richmond is most famous for, particularly since the Fenton video…
- So bar lovely little cocktail bar in the heart of Richmond. Definitely one to go to on a girly night out.
- The special views – Richmond has quite a few of these, but one of my favourites is the protected, uninterrupted view from King Henry VIII’s Mound in Richmond Park all the way to St Pauls Cathedral.
- Kew Gardens Not only does it hold the world’s largest collection of living plants in the world, but they also host great events like the Illuminated Trail and Kew the Music. Plus they have a treetop walkway.
- Beirut street kitchen The best place to go for lunch in Richmond in my opinion. Plus they serve teapigs tea, what more could you want!
- Its grizzly past - I love a good murder mystery and local history so Jonathan Oates’ book Foul Deeds in Richmond and Kingston was definitely a book for me! One of the stories related to a murder from 1879 where a housekeeper murdered her mistress, chopped up her body, put the pieces in a sack, walked over Richmond bridge, and dumped the pieces in the River Thames. But the head was never found… until 2011 when it was discovered in David Attenborough’s back garden! Obviously.
- William Curley boutique I struggle to walk past this place without going in and buying just a little something. They’re not cheap but these award winning chocolates are worth every penny in my book.
- Hollyhock café Another teapigs stockist positioned in the beautiful Richmond terraced gardens.
