It's a family affair, as recipes pass down through generations like proper heirlooms. The traditional way to make chai is a delightful medley of spices and milk (think cardamom, cloves, cinnamon, fennel seeds, oh my!) boiled with black tea leaves—to create a strong, spicy, and sweet delight.

You may be wondering "But what does chai taste like, exactly?" It's a fair question! Chai's warm and spicy profile comes with a lovely touch of sweetness. Bold black tea lays the foundation, whilst cinnamon and cardamom inject aromatic charm, and ginger adds a subtle dash of heat.

When to Drink Chai Tea:

You can drink chai at any time, but nothing quite beats a hot warming chai on a cold winter's day when you’re cosying up with a blanket and a book. In the summer we like an iced chai latte to go, surprisingly refreshing on a summer's walk.

 

How to Brew Chai Tea:

  1. Pop 1 tea temple of teapigs chai tea or 1 loose leaf scoop per person (in a tea infuser) into your mug
  2. Top your mug up with freshly boiled water
  3. Leave to brew in your mug for 3 minutes, minimum
  4. Have it black or add a dash of milk

 

How to Make a Chai Latte:

  1. Pop 1 tea temple or loose leaf scoop per person (in a tea infuser) into your mug
  2. Cover the tea with freshly boiled water. A quarter of a mug will do
  3. Leave to brew in your cup for 3 - 5 minutes. The longer the brew, the stronger the flavour!
  4. Make some hot frothy milk using a milk frother or on the hob with a whisk
  5. Top up your tea with hot milk
  6. If you want to add a little sweetener, we recommend agave syrup. Yum!
  7. Top with cinnamon to add a little extra spice

 

How to Make a Matcha Chai Latte:

  1. Add a scoop of organic matcha power to your mug with a dash of milk, and whisk until smooth
  2. Pop 1 tea temple or loose leaf scoop per person (in a tea infuser) into your mug
  3. Cover the tea and matcha with freshly boiled water. A quarter of a mug will do
  4. Leave to brew in your cup for 3 - 5 minutes. The longer the brew, the stronger the flavour
  5. Make some hot frothy milk using a milk frother or on the hob with a whisk
  6. Top up your tea with hot milk
  7. If you want to add a little sweetener, pop in a dash of that agave syrup
  8. Dust with matcha powder. Make it fancy, you deserve it

 

How to Make an Iced teapigs Chai:

  1. Pop 1 tea temple or loose leaf scoop per person (in a tea infuser) into your mug
  2. Cover the tea with freshly boiled water. A quarter of a mug
  3. Leave to brew in your mug for 3 - 5 minutes. We like to keep the temples in, as they will continue to infuse - but feel free to take them out if you'd prefer
  4. Top with icy cold water and ice cubes

 

How to an Make an Iced Chai Latte:

  3. Leave to brew in your cup for 3 - 5 minutes
  4. Top up with ice and cold milk/ milk alternative
  5. If you want to add a little sweetener, we like to use agave syrup
