Rowing gals and teapigs fans Laura and Annabel (The Coxless Rowers) are gearing up for their Pacific Ocean row which will be kicking off next Spring. They are training hard and making time for an all-important cuppa, but not just any old cuppa, oooh no, for these girls it just has to be matcha. They’ve been kind enough to write us a little blog about their experiences with matcha and why they love it so so much. Take it away girls!
“Many of you ask us how we sustain our energy levels while training and planning to row an ocean. As we near the start of our row next April our training will steadily increase seeing us training for around twenty hours a week with a scheduled eight, twelve, twenty four and forty eight hour row, not to mention the many row-athon’s we plan to do as part of our fundraising. We have completed numerous ‘longer’ rowing sessions and regularly row for at least two hours at a time.
Introducing what Laura and I call …..‘Magic Matcha’! Matcha being Matcha Green Tea. Matcha is essentially a very concentrated form of green tea. Matcha tea bushes are grown under shade which increases the chlorophyll content of the leaf which is particularly rich in antioxidants and what makes it look so bright green.
When you drink regular green tea, you throw away the leaves afterwards which is a bit like boiling spinach, throwing away the spinach and just drinking the water – you’ll get some of the nutrients, but not all of them. Matcha is drunk as a fine powder diffused in liquid so you actually ingest the whole leaf, consuming every bit of goodness.
teapigs are a stupendous British company who have been sponsoring us with this their magnificent matcha for the last eighteen months. teapigs refer to matcha as a superhero amongst teas and we can definitely vouch for this. Matcha contains two essential amino acids which culminate in a sustained energy boost which can last for up to six hours. One matcha ‘shot’ is the equivalent to fifteen cups of green tea. Waaaay better than a cup of coffee & much better for you. Matcha also contains one hundred and thirty seven times the antioxidants of regular green tea so our immune systems can remain super strong. It can also help you lose weight, develop a radiant complexion and following a recent study by the British Medical Journal, may act protectively against heart disease. Amazing huh? We don’t drink anything else these days. We will be loading up our boat with this magic powder and we have made it our mission to shout from the roof tops about the proven benefits of marvellous matcha and teapigs.
teapigs have been an incredible support to our team over the past year and we would like to thank them for this. We seriously love this stuff and would recommend it to anyone. It is super ace for any activity endurance or otherwise or simply as an adage to maintaining a super healthy body and mind. For more information on teapigs and their Matcha Green Tea click here.”
