We can’t get enough of this super powered green tea here at teapigs, but there are still many people in the UK who have never even heard of the stuff. In Japan however matcha is as popular a flavouring as chocolate or vanilla, and whilst walking down the aisles of a supermarket over there you’re guaranteed to come across some matcha flavoured products. Sweet treats like ice cream, cakes and biscuits often use matcha as their main ingredient, and in the drinks/tea section matcha crops up in the form of sachets, tins and even flavoured milk.
Matcha is not just widely available in the supermarkets; it’s common to see something matcha flavoured on restaurant menus too. And you know something must be popular when big name brands like Kit Kat, Liptons, Haagen Daaz and Starbucks are producing matcha flavoured products. Now it’s just the UK’s turn to catch up…
