Today is Random Acts of Kindness Day, and while we agree that kindness shouldn’t be limited to just one day, we love that this day encourages people to make an extra effort to bring some cheer to someone’s day, without expecting anything in return. Whether that’s doing something for a friend, relative, stranger… or pet, even the littlest act of goodwill can uplift someone's mood. If you're struggling for ideas, here are 8 super simple ways to bring a bit of extra kindness into the day (and beyond!)
offer to do the office tea round
An easy starting point!
manners, manners, manners
A simple ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ really can go a long way. Holding the door open for someone, giving up your seat on the bus to someone who looks like they need it more than you do, helping someone down the tube stairs with their push chair… the possibilities are endless, and really won’t take much time out of your day.
smile more
It’s easy, free… and contagious!
let a friend or relative know you’re thinking about them
Haven't heard from a certain friend or relative in a while? Ping them a message, or give them a call to see how they are. Not sure what to say? A simple message to say you’re thinking of them, asking them how their day was, or sending a funny (cat) meme, or a photo from a fun day out you had together, can be a good starting point.
bake something
If your office is anything like ours then you won’t often struggle to get a daily sweet treat fix! If you have time this week, why not bake something yummy and treat your friends, relatives or colleagues? 10/10 times this goes down well.
go plogging
This is something we tried last year, and we plan to bring it back for 2020, too! It combines jogging and picking up litter – you’d be shocked at how much rubbish you can collect in such a short space of time. Give the environment some extra love and you'll feel great for it... promise!
do something charitable
Whether it’s registering to donate blood, popping over to your local clothes bank with those clothes you still haven’t got round to taking over, or delivering some tins to a food bank - make some time in your day, or week, to give something back.
be kind to yourself
It's fab to look out for others, but don't forget about YOU! Whether it’s just taking some time out to pop the kettle on and enjoy your favourite herbal tea, running yourself a warm bubble bath (or both, as we like to do!) be sure to take some time out if you can to relax.
So there we have it, some easy ways to take action and bring some extra kindness to the day. What will your random acts of kindness be this week? Let us know – @teapigs!
