With Halloween now out the way, it's time to turn our attention to the main event...Christmas! It’s tricky to think sustainably when panic buying online – but fear not, we’ve put together a few really simple ways you can have yourself a merry little sustainable Christmas!
recyclable wrapping paper
As much as we love all things that sparkle, when it comes to wrapping, try to avoid using shiny, glittering wrapping paper and instead opt for brown parcel paper and brown tape, or why not use your old newspapers to wrap your presents - The Financial Times will even give you a nice shade of pink paper! Dig out your bag of mismatched ribbon and string from years gone by, and you’re good to go!
If you’re after something you can reuse, get yourself some fabric gift wrap.
send seed christmas cards
Although the majority of cards are recyclable (again – watch out for that sparkle!) go one further and send seed cards! Yep - wildflower seeds, within the paper! So, when you’re done enjoying your card, simply pop it outside, give it a water and watch your seeds grow. We absolutely love these designs by Hannah Marchant.

try to limit your food waste
As lovely as it is to spend time with loved ones, we all know that Christmas is really all about the wonderful food. Plan ahead, and simply – don’t buy as much! Even if you buy 50% less, likelihood is, you’ll still have far too much! No one really needs 17 different varieties of cheese, 13 is more than enough. Be sure to get creative with any leftovers – turkey curry is always a winner, and try to recycle as much of the packaging as possible.
replant your christmas tree
The big Christmas tree debate – real or fake?! There really is no beating a real tree, but why not try and replant it once you’re done? If you’ve opted for a fake tree, invest in a good’un and it will last you a lifetime!
volunteer this christmas
The season of giving doesn’t just mean giving gifts – you can also give your time. Wonderful charities such as Crisis are always looking for volunteers to help support those experiencing homelessness this Christmas. There are loads of ways you can get involved from helping to cook and serve meals, being there to simply have a chat or sharing your skills with those in need.
