The grounds of Belvoir Castle were alive with thousands of runners last month for the Equinox 24 event. We were super pleased to get involved and provide some tea bags for the finisher’s goody bags. The race was split between those running in the 24 hour relay (yes, you read that right – 24 hours!) and the 10k event which teapigs fan Tony ran and gave us his race report.
“The picturesque ground of Belvoir castle looked like a mini Glastonbury when we arrived, with tents already there for competitors taking part in the 24 hour run. Some people had obviously camped the previous night and were tucking in to prerun breakfasts. There was a happy, relaxed atmosphere.
I registered, but they had run out of pins so advised me to put my number in my pocket!
There were about 120 runners for the 10k and about 180 for the 24 hour including lots of teams running for charity.
Stalls included places to eat and drink, running stuff, and some "fun fair" type stalls like fishing for a ball to keep the children amused. My granddaughters Sophie and Isla came to cheer me on and won guitars! There was also a climbing wall which Sophie did and reached the top.
Best of all was the free bouncy castle which was enjoyed by Sophie and Isla.
The course was tough with a couple of steep hill climbs and about 80% of the run on uneven grass.
It was a great day and I was pleased that I beat 60 mins target!”
Nice one Tony, great result! If you fancy giving this a go next year – check out the Equinox page and get ready for a great race in 2015.
